Everythink You Should Know About Yoga

Origin Of Yoga

The Origins of yoga have been speculated to date back to pre-Vedic Indian traditions; it is mentioned in the Rigveda, but most likely developed around the sixth and fifth centuries BCE, in ancient India's ascetic and śramaṇa movements. The chronology of earliest texts describing yoga-practices is unclear, varyingly credited to Upanishads. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali date from the first half of the 1st millennium CE,and gained prominence in the West in the 20th century. Hatha yoga texts emerged sometimes between the 9th and 11th century with origins in tantra.
Yoga gurus from India later introduced yoga to the West, following the success of Swami Vivekananda in the late 19th and early 20th century with his adaptation of yoga tradition, excluding asanas.Outside India, it has developed into a posture-based physical fitness, stress-relief and relaxation technique.Yoga in Indian traditions, however, is more than physical exercise; it has a meditative and spiritual core. One of the six major orthodox schools of Hinduism is also called Yoga, which has its own epistemology and metaphysics, and is closely related to Hindu Samkhya philosophy.Yoga Teacher Training Course are so popular in india.

Popularity Of Yoga

Yoga Continues to Grow in Popularity. An estimated 9.5% of Americans now practice yoga, according to a recent survey. If you have ever taken a really great yoga class, or simply practiced yoga regularly over a period of time, you have likely experienced first hand why yoga has become so popular.

Benefits Of Doing yoga :

The purpose of yoga is to build strength, awareness and harmony in both the mind and body. While there are more than 100 different types, or schools, of yoga, most sessions typically include breathing exercises, meditation, and assuming postures (sometimes called asana or poses) that stretch and flex various muscle groups.
Physical benefits
“The relaxation techniques incorporated in yoga can lessen chronic pain, such as lower back pain, arthritis, headaches and carpal tunnel syndrome,”. “Yoga can also lower blood pressure and reduce insomnia.”

Other physical benefits of yoga include:

increased flexibility
increased muscle strength and tone
improved respiration, energy and vitality
maintaining a balanced metabolism
weight reduction
cardio and circulatory health
improved athletic performance
protection from injury

Mental Benefits Of Yoga:

1. It moves you from the sympathetic nervous system to the parasympathetic nervous system, or from flight-or-flight to rest-and-digest. You typically have less anxiety and enter a more relaxed state. As soon as you start breathing deeply, you slow down out of fight-or-flight and calm your nervous system.
2. It helps you build your sense of self. Through yoga, you get to know yourself and cultivate a more nonjudgmental relationship with yourself. You are building self-trust. You exercise more and eat healthier, because your unconscious mind tells you, "I'm worthy of this me time, this effort." At the end of the day, everything comes down to your relationship with yourself. When you get more confident and become more rooted in your sense of self and your center, you develop a healthy, balanced ego, where you have nothing to prove and nothing to hide. You become courageous, with high willpower. You're not afraid of difficult conversations—you know you're still going to be OK at the end of the day.
3. It improves your romantic relationship. When you're more centered and more peaceful with yourself, you'll be the same way with your partner—you'll view them through the same lens of compassionate, unconditional love. You're less reactive—for example, you may know that snapping at your partner is not a wise choice.

4. It helps you become aware of your "shadow" qualities. The yoking of solar and lunar (light and dark) in yoga makes us recognize qualities in ourselves that we were not aware of, helping us be more mindful. A lot of my work centers on the shadow concept from Carl Jung. How do we look at those places in our bodies where we hold tension, tightness, knots of energy? That's typically where we are holding our psychological or emotional energy. We work from the outside in, so asana is so important. A backbend will open your heart and release the stiffness between the shoulder blades—at some point, you will have some sort of emotional release, which you may or may not be conscious of. It's about doing the inner work to shift or change and be open to doing your best with your weaknesses and faults.
Today, mainstream yoga is similar to Scravelli’s approach. Iyengar, Ashtanga and power yoga are all loosely based on Scravelli’s ideas. These modern forms have helped people all over the world develop confidence, lose weight and relieve stress. It’s a popular choice to maintain both physical and mental strength, and physical therapists regularly incorporate yoga for their patients.
Yoga has become a lifestyle. The pursuit of living a more connected, present and, ultimately, happy existence. From those who take a week out every year to visit a yoga retreat to the ones practice morning and night, this movement revolution is helping millions and creating a global community!
Yoga is also gaining momentum in Africa through the Africa Yoga Project, which is training young people as teachers and spreading yoga to 80 locations in the continent so far!

Efforts Taken By World Bodies:

In 2016, the United Nations proclaimed June 21 as the International Day of Yoga to raise awareness of the benefits of yoga, and yogis took to their mats worldwide!

The power of the internet has made yoga more accessible to everyone. Resources such as YouTube have transported the practice to points all over the globe. Advances in bypassing censorship mean that even those in internet dark spots, such as China and parts of the Middle East, can wake up and salute the sun with the rest of us!
Yoga retreats are available worldwide and offer so much more than just classes. You can spend your days in Hawaii, surfing waves and stretching out or adventure in Thailand while cultivating wellness. There are even yoga centers in Anguilla, one of the top scuba diving destinations! Plus, many top golf courses now offer rejuvenating yogic experiences for your stay.
